A lighthouse, a spooky abandoned US Navy base, a stunning beach and the ocean - what more could you ask for on a shoot? It gave us the perfect opportunity to experiment with the new 3-axis (H3-3D) gimbal - we were very pleased with the results given the high-wind on the day.

The Beachlands development in Holetown has somewhat stalled of recent, but they did finish the fantastic breakwater giving an excellent, and somewhat unknown, little beach. The properties north of the development (previously a derelict hotel and a Chefette) are now being redeveloped as well. All of these form part of the West Coast boardwalk...

Drag racing Sundays... the joys of motorsport in Barbados! The public 1km long straight at Thicketts was shutdown for a motorsport drag racing event which attracted people in their thousands. Above Barbados were there to cover it!

A 'proof of concept' villa shoot for the stunning villa Landfall on Sandy Lane. The weather wasn't really playing ball on the day so the time was used to test out some flight paths through the location.

With the rally season kicking off into full swing, Above Barbados filmed the 2014 BRC Valvoline Rally from the air. Using our older 2-axis (H3-2D) gimbal and weaving around the telegraph poles lining the route we produced an aerial highlight video of the event.

Passing back from filming some rally footage, it seemed a good idea to snap a quick photo St Lucy church...

The beautiful Port St. Charles marina sits on the West Coast of Barbados. The Barbados Game Fishing Association has an annual international fishing tournament that is based out of the marina. Above Barbados were invited to film from the heliport (with CAA permission!) to film the launch of the event.

Another 'must' stop on any tour of Barbados, for us, we wanted to test the low-light conditions of the current rig given the overcast conditions. A frustrating shoot given the lighting conditions, but we still managed to gather some good stock video.

More stock footage gathering in the huge expanse of Carlisle Bay, Bridgetown. A near perfect day, with beautifully clear water allowing some great shots to be taken.

River Bay on the north east coast of Barbados is a sheltered bay with some interesting georgraphical features. With rough seas on one side, the inlet shelters pools and (hence the name) a river.

With the work ongoing at the Bushy Park racetrack in preparation for the forthcoming Top Gear Festival we thought it was nigh on time to see a full flying lap of the resurfaced race-track. Utilising older 2-axis equipment, it did show the limitations of the H2-3D (thankfully replaced with a 3-axis shortly after) it did show the beauty in being...

One of the most picturesque bays in Barbados - Bottom Bay in Saint Philip... the location for a pre-dawn shoot for a MoFilm contestant shooting their 'last Rolo' advert. A stunning location with the dawn colours lending a beautiful tint to the whole scene.
March 25th, 2014
We were invited down to the stunning break at Sandy Bank on the south coast of Barbados to film Chelsea Rhoett for the forthcoming LIME advert. The shoot involved circling Chelsea on her surfboard while she posed taking 'selfies' as part of LIME's forthcoming campaign.  A fun shoot, an amazing location and great subject. You can see the section of...

A test of a concept, so the footage was more for stock purposes than for actual public consumption, but nonetheless we took some footage from the first rally of 2014.

Now a ruin, Sam Lords Castle used to be a hotel that was one of the gems of Barbados. Rumour has it that it will be rebuilt - we can only hope it recaptures it's former glory. A stunning, expansive propoerty, right on the beach.
March 18th, 2014
Given the wide expanses available at Hopewell, the opportunity was taken to range test our rig on both video, control and run through the various fail-safe drills available.

As our first real test over water with the new equipment we opted to shoot some of the surfers taking advantage of the West Coast swell by filming them out over Tropicana. We learnt a lot during this shoot about the angles, directions and shots to use when shooting surfing. A very useful learning curve.

One of the most picturesque bay in Barbados and a 'must' on any photographer's list - Bottom Bay in Saint Philip. We chose to go on a particularly bright afternoon to ensure the colours of the sea were their most radiant. We also experimented with some lens corrections on our kit and some panoramic photos. The aerial footage was taken using our...

A stunning, but ruined, property on the East Coast of Barbados, right next to Bottom Bay - Harrismiths makes for a very interesting shooting subject. The bay itself is worthy of an entire shoot!

Used more for testing purposes practising close-quarters FPV and high-altitude framing shots - we took a visit to Groves farm and snapped away...
